To calculate percentage of marks, divide the marks obtained by the total marks and multiply by 100 \u2014 Percentage = (Obtained ÷ Total) × 100. For several subjects, add up every obtained mark and every total mark first, then apply the same formula. How to Calculate Percentage of Marks
The formula is the same whether it's a single paper, a full result card, or a semester total:
Percentage = (Obtained Marks ÷ Total Marks) × 100
Worked example: a Matric student scores 820 marks out of 1100. Divide 820 by 1100 to get 0.745, then multiply by 100 — the percentage is 74.5%. A CBSE student scoring 456 out of 500 works the same way: 456 ÷ 500 × 100 = 91.2%.
When marks come from several subjects with different totals — say a 100-mark subject next to a 200-mark subject — don't average the two percentages. Add up the obtained marks, add up the totals, then divide. That's exactly what Subject-wise mode above does, the same way boards calculate an overall result.

Grade bands differ across boards and are revised from time to time. Treat the table below as a general guide, and check your own board's latest notification if a real decision rests on it.

How do I calculate percentage of marks for 5 or 6 subjects?

What marks do I need to get 80%?
Use Marks Needed for Target: enter 80 as the target percentage and your total marks (say 1100), and it works out you need 880 marks. The result is rounded up, since scoring slightly below the exact figure would leave you under target.
Should I average my subject percentages instead of adding the marks?
Only if every subject has the same total marks. When totals differ — a 200-mark subject next to a 75-mark one — averaging the percentages gives the wrong overall figure. Add the marks first, then divide.
Does this show my grade and division as well?
